Questions:

  1. Can you briefly introduce yourself and share a fun fact about you?

My name is Mona Takuma and I am a Calmindon RA on the first floor. I am Japanese American and am currently getting my Masters in Education.

  1. Where are you from?

I am from Fountain Valley, 20 minutes from UCI.

  1. What was your major in college / dream profession?

My major was Education and I am an aspiring teacher.

  1. Why did you decide to be a part of COSMOS?

I decided to be a part of COSMOS since I did it last year, and it was so much fun planning events and working together with other RAs.

  1. What’s your favorite memory so far in this role?

I think my favorite memory is the Bommer Canyon hike, where I hiked with a bunch of residents and got to know them. Everyone is so funny and good vibes all around.

  1. Favorite food?

I can’t identify a favorite food, but I love Japanese cuisine and Mediterranean.

  1. What’s your favorite part of campus or hidden gem at UCI that students show know about?

I love Langson library. On the basement floor, they have a special collection of vintage Japanese magazines.

  1. Favorite song / music genre?

I like pop, house music, and dance/electronic.

  1. Describe a hobby or passion you have that most people wouldn’t guess about you

I love being outdoors and being active. I love going to the beach, running, and playing sports.

  1. What’s the most unexpected / interesting experience you’ve had while being an RA?

Last year, covid was going around and I unknowingly caught it from one of the residents and had to leave the program a week early. That was the first time I ever caught covid too.

  1. Any advice for COSMOS students?

Advice: Go out of your comfort zone and talk to a lot of ppl! College is about forming relationships with other ppl, and COSMOS is a great safe environment where you get to practice!
