Residential Life Week 4 News

Vivian Lu
In the last week of COSMOS, residential life was as strong as ever. In my hall–Whispering Woods–we stayed up late almost every single night chatting with each other about our lives back at home and spending time with our RAs for the last time. Floor 3, which is where I resided, participated in the talent show in various singing and instrumental acts. We watched as a student showed off his Geoguessr skills, another resident made balloon animals, and all of Grey Havens Floor 2 danced to Justin Bieber’s “Baby.” Finally, we watched the sunset and partied on the top of the Anteater Parking Structure on our last night. The COSMOS staff created a video of our entire program, and we all laughed together and pointed at the pictures of our friends. At the end of the video, they announced the winning hall this year–Whispering Woods!–and we all celebrated by taking a last midnight trip to University Town Center with our hall.

During the fourth week of COSMOS, we had just as fun enjoying our last week of residential life! The last week was full of fun activities like the talent show, tote bag decorating, and the sunset night. The talent show ranged from dancing, singing, playing the guitar, and even an amazing performance of GeoGuesser! Meanwhile, we had fun enjoying our last night at COSMOS by going to watch the sunset with out friends on top of the Anteater Parking structure. We all had an amazing time laughing and watching the video that the COSMOS staff created to commemorate our time together. As our last day drew to a close and Friday approached, we realised that the friendships and connections we made throughout COSMOS are ones we will.

Our free time at COSMOS is something I have grown to value more and more as time in the program has gone on. Over these four weeks, I have met some amazing people that I will remember far beyond the program. Not only have my friends given me amazing experiences that I will never forget, but we all promised to see each other again in the future. One of the ways my friends and I got closer at COSMOS was by spending our evenings together. The Woodhall common room was a perfect place to do so, as it is one of the more central common rooms in Middle Earth. The Woodhall common room also offers activities such as ping-pong, a TV, and various options for sitting and hanging -out. Throughout our last week, we spent most of our nights together in this common room watching movies, playing games, and interacting with each other. Now that I look back at it, those moments when we were together are probably what I am going to miss and remember the most about COSMOS.

Talent Show: Shosei Chiang
As the end of COSMOS nears, the bonds between everyone grows ever stronger. The COSMOS Talent Show is one such contributor as residents get to see each other outside of their STEM pursuits. Talents range from singing, balloon-making, playing the guitar, dancing (which I was a part of!) and even GeoGuesser. For my floor–Grey Havens Floor 2–the talent show was the culmination of 4-weeks long worth of dance practices. Like our group, each group’s act was clearly filled with dedication and care, culminating in an unforgettable experience for the audience. But this experience would not have been possible without the work of our RA’s who put in continual effort, whether it be from hosting auditions, preparing the auditorium or getting the crowd going. As the talent show concluded, I was left with a bittersweet feeling as I was reminded of our fleeting time here with such an amazing group of people.
